For families in Blackfoot

For families in Blackfoot, East Idaho: use the resources and practical steps in this guide to plan wanted nonmedical help. Confirm individual requirements and current availability with the responsible provider.

When a Blackfoot Certified Family Home provider will be away, clarify whether care will be supplied by a substitute in the same home or through an approved alternate-home arrangement. Those routes require more than finding someone willing to stop by.

Ask the provider and certifying agent

Bring the actual absence dates and resident's needs to the CFH provider and Region 6 certifying agent. Idaho's current rule and handoff form distinguish the temporary-coverage routes. Ask which applies, what resident-specific plan or agreement is needed and what approval must be in place.

Incidental supervision is a separate, limited route: it does not include resident care. Do not use it to cover personal assistance or medication tasks. The provider must confirm that the resident does not need care during that period and that the rule’s time limits are met. Alternate care in another CFH requires Department approval and the original service plan and admission agreement; both alternate and substitute care require resident-specific preparation.

Confirm the actual replacement person's qualifications and required training through the responsible parties. A family member or agency employee is not automatically an approved substitute. If another home is proposed, ask about the actual receiving arrangement and the adult's wishes rather than treating a name on a list as a place secured.

Make the handoff usable

Clarify which ordinary routines and authorized information need to be handed over, who will answer questions and how changes will be communicated. Keep clinical instructions with the responsible qualified team. Do not circulate the resident's entire private file to every helper.

Before the regular provider leaves, confirm the approved dates and real coverage. If a required step remains unresolved, ask the responsible provider and certifying agent how continuity will be handled. A completed form is not a substitute for an actual accepted care arrangement.

Resources for this decision

For a separate discussion of wanted nonmedical assistance, contact the Blackfoot care team or Get Started. Describe the actual location, tasks and timing, and ask the team to confirm what it can provide before relying on a visit.
