For families in Boise

For families in Boise, Treasure Valley & Magic Valley: use the resources and practical steps in this guide to plan wanted nonmedical help. Confirm individual requirements and current availability with the responsible provider.

Before relying on VRT Access, ask about the rider's current certification and the actual pickup and destination. Then confirm the journey and the help needed around it. A Boise address or an older age alone does not answer those questions.

VRT describes Access as disability-related paratransit that follows fixed-route coverage and operating hours. It specifies a route-distance boundary, reservations and current certification, and directs families to ask about address coverage.

Make one complete trip inquiry

Have both addresses ready, including the location where the rider will wait. Ask VRT:

  • Does the current certification fit this proposed journey?
  • Do both endpoints fall within the current coverage?
  • How should the outward and return arrangements be requested?
  • What should the provider know about a wheelchair or accompanying person?
  • What happens if the appointment finish time changes?

The provider makes the eligibility and coverage decisions. Do not calculate a straight-line distance from a map and treat that as approval.

Identify help outside the ride

Write down the tasks before departure and after arrival. Getting ready, gathering paperwork, reaching the pickup point and handling household routines afterward may need separate agreements.

Ask VRT about its assistance and attendant arrangements. Ask any private care provider about its own duties and schedule. Neither conversation should silently expand the other's role.

If Access does not fit

Find out exactly what is unresolved: the rider's conditions, an endpoint, the requested time or something else. That answer makes the next resource inquiry more useful.

Area 3 describes transportation coordination through contracted providers and invites area-specific inquiries. It is another place to ask about options; its webpage is not a replacement booking or a promise that a suitable ride exists.

Keep an alternative marked as unconfirmed until the responsible provider agrees to the particular trip. If the family changes the journey, recheck the support arrangements around it.

Recheck when the plan changes

For recurring visits, ask when certification needs review and whether changed endpoints or service coverage affect the arrangement. A successful earlier journey should not substitute for a provider response to a materially different request.

Use the Boise care page for a separate discussion of non-medical help around the appointment. Confirm the tasks and realistic care window after the travel plan is understood, then request staffing confirmation and a written estimate.
