Euclid family planning checklist: Make the first request specific; Make returning material easy; Decide whether companionship is a separate need

For families in Euclid

For families in Euclid, Northeast Ohio: use the resources and practical steps in this guide to plan wanted nonmedical help. Confirm individual requirements and current availability with the responsible provider.

For an Euclid resident unable to leave home, a library trip may be unnecessary for borrowing ordinary reading material. Euclid Public Library's Books by Mail service describes delivery for residents who are temporarily or permanently unable to leave their homes.

The library sends material through the U.S. Postal Service in a reusable pouch with return postage. Its page gives a separate enrollment contact for people who are not already Outreach patrons. Ask the library to confirm participation and the current process before expecting a shipment.

Make the first request specific

The library asks borrowers to prepare the author and title, preferred format and number of items. A format matters as much as a title: ask whether large print, an audiobook or another available option would be preferable.

If the reader would like suggestions, explain their interests to library staff. If a relative or companion helps with requests, ask the library how that assistance should work. A caregiving role does not automatically settle library account permissions.

The service page also lists exclusions, including hotspots, video games and non-CLEVNET interlibrary-loan items. Check the current list before promising a particular item or using this service as a plan for home internet access.

Make returning material easy

Choose an agreed place for the delivery pouch and borrowed items. Keep the return instructions with them. The library says borrowers reverse the address card to return material by USPS; ask staff about any current instructions or questions concerning the loan.

Record what was requested and what arrived. Some items may be sent separately, so an incomplete first delivery does not necessarily mean the remaining request has been canceled. Contact the library rather than assume an item is missing permanently.

Decide whether companionship is a separate need

Mail delivery supplies material. It does not provide a person to read together, help select the next book or spend an afternoon in conversation.

If the older adult wants that kind of company, discuss the preferred routine and what help is welcome. A companion visit can be planned around the person's interests alongside other agreed nonmedical tasks.

For that conversation, use our Euclid care page or contact the Northeast Ohio team. Library enrollment and caregiver visits need separate confirmation.
