For families in Morgantown

For families in Morgantown, North Central West Virginia & Southwestern Pennsylvania: use the resources and practical steps in this guide to plan wanted nonmedical help. Confirm individual requirements and current availability with the responsible provider.

Before arranging a Senior Monongalians visit, decide whether the person needs a reserved center ride or can use a public bus route. Those choices require different calls and different assistance. An older mention of a Senior Monongalians bus pass is not enough to plan today's trip.

Start with the correct transportation service

Senior Monongalians describes its own center transportation for Monongalia County residents aged 60 or older. The provider says reservations are required a day ahead, with limited space. Call 304-296-9812 to confirm current operation, the pickup address, available seating and the return arrangement. This page describes a center service; it does not establish a general medical-appointment ride.

Alternatively, Mountain Line's route list includes Mountaineer Mall and Senior Monongalians on the Orange Line. Check the current route schedule and alerts for the actual travel day. A named destination does not tell you whether the person can reach the stop or complete a transfer comfortably.

Mountain Line's Senior Programs page says the former SMI bus-pass program ended on December 31, 2020. Ask about current fares and rider programs directly rather than relying on that retired arrangement.

Check the journey from the living room onward

For either option, walk through the route with the rider. Identify the home exit, pickup or bus stop, boarding needs, building entrance and place to wait for the return. Describe the mobility device and any need for another person to accompany them when speaking with the provider.

For a public-route trip, ask the rider how they would recognize the stop and handle a missed connection. If that is unfamiliar, consider whether a relative can accompany the first outing. For a reserved center ride, confirm where the driver will meet the person and what assistance the program can actually provide.

Put the return in writing

Create one short trip note containing:

  • The confirmed ride or selected route, date and pickup details.
  • Who helps with dressing, belongings and reaching the pickup point.
  • The destination entrance and the return pickup location.
  • The contact to use if the outing ends early or the return changes.
  • Who will be present when the person gets home, if help is needed then.

Include the rider in deciding how much assistance feels useful. Review the first outing before making it a recurring routine.

If preparation or the return-home routine needs additional nonmedical help, use our Morgantown care page and regional care contact. Ask about the exact tasks and timing. A caregiver request and a transportation reservation each need their own confirmation.
