For families in Uniontown

For families in Uniontown, North Central West Virginia & Southwestern Pennsylvania: use the resources and practical steps in this guide to plan wanted nonmedical help. Confirm individual requirements and current availability with the responsible provider.

Before a Uniontown family spends money on respite expecting help with the cost, speak with the program that would approve reimbursement. The questions are practical: whether this household qualifies, which expense could be considered, what approval is needed and what records to keep. A private care estimate cannot answer those questions for the public program.

Start with the Fayette County information route

The Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging serves Fayette, Greene and Washington counties. Its Caregiver Support Program describes limited reimbursement for eligible respite or personal care, among other supports. Assessment and household-income-related rules apply. Contact Information and Assistance at 1-800-734-9603 to ask which pathway fits the caregiving situation.

Do not treat a family member's unpaid caregiving role, residence in Fayette County or an eligible-looking expense as approval. Ask staff to explain the actual process before building the household budget around it.

Take the proposed expense to the program

Prepare a plain description of the person receiving care, the assistance they need, the caregiver's role and the proposed time away. Then ask:

  1. What assessment and documentation are required for this household?
  2. Must the program approve the service, provider or purchase before money is spent?
  3. Which dates and expenses could qualify, and what portion would remain the family's responsibility?
  4. What limits or current funding restrictions apply?
  5. Which invoices, receipts, service descriptions or other records are needed, and where are they submitted?

These are questions for staff, not promises about reimbursement procedure. Write down the response, the next action and any decision still pending. Keep sensitive financial documents in the program's approved submission route.

Make the respite request independently usable

Prepare the care schedule as if another relative needed to understand it: exact address, start and end times, tasks, personal preferences and a backup contact. Include travel and handoff time. Ask the care provider for a written estimate and terms covering the same schedule you discussed with program staff.

If reimbursement is undecided, keep that uncertainty visible. Decide what the family can cover, whether the requested schedule can change and who will provide essential help while approval or staffing is pending. Do not assume a later reimbursement decision will cover care already purchased.

Our Uniontown caregiving page can help frame a separate nonmedical care request. Ask our regional care team for a Pennsylvania estimate, available visits and confirmed payment arrangements. SWPA AAA determines its program decisions; an agency care booking does not establish public funding or reimbursement.
