For families in Washington

For families in Washington, North Central West Virginia & Southwestern Pennsylvania: use the resources and practical steps in this guide to plan wanted nonmedical help. Confirm individual requirements and current availability with the responsible provider.

When checking a Pennsylvania home-care proposal, match the official listing to the exact organization in the paperwork. A similarly named provider, another care category or an older list can lead a family to the wrong conclusion.

Search the right category and entity

Begin at the Department of Health home-care page and its official facility locator. Select the Home Care category and use an appropriate geographic filter. Compare the legal or listed name and address with the proposed agreement, not just a familiar brand name.

If no matching entry appears, ask the regulator or agency to clarify the discrepancy. One unsuccessful search is not enough to pronounce an organization unlicensed. A county filter describes the search, not the provider's entire service territory.

Read dates and follow-up together

If a survey or report is available, note its date and read any later follow-up or correction in context. Do not turn an older finding into a claim about present operations without the relevant current information. A label indicating no available health surveys is not proof of no license or a favorable quality assessment.

Keep licensure, certification, directory status, staffing and payment coverage as separate questions. A matching license entry does not guarantee that the proposed worker is available or that the family's funding will pay for visits.

Save the entity and date you actually checked, then ask the proposed provider to resolve any mismatch before signing. The purpose is accurate identification and informed questions, not a ranking of providers based on incomplete directory information.

Discuss ordinary help at home

For separately arranged nonmedical assistance, our Washington care team can discuss the person's requested tasks and timing. Contact the local care team to ask about the actual scope, schedule and available staffing.
