When a Fairmont ADW Member Needs More Help

For families in Fairmont
For families in Fairmont, North Central West Virginia & Southwestern Pennsylvania: use the resources and practical steps in this guide to plan wanted nonmedical help. Confirm individual requirements and current availability with the responsible provider.
When an existing ADW member's needs change substantially, asking an attendant to stay longer may not address the underlying plan. Bring the observed change to the case manager and responsible nurse so the correct service-level process can be considered.
Describe what changed in daily life
Record concrete examples: a task now takes more assistance, a previously manageable part of the day is uncovered, or the current arrangement no longer fits the member's routine. Explain when the change began without diagnosing its cause or deciding the member's eligibility.
Ask the assigned team which assessment and supporting information are needed under Chapter 501 and the current request forms. The responsible professionals determine the appropriate route and any clinical evaluation. A family note supports the conversation; it does not authorize extra hours.
Track the request and the immediate gap
Ask who submits the supported request, how the decision will be communicated and who explains it to the member. Distinguish the requested level, the actual decision and available staffing. Even an approved change may require a separate scheduling arrangement.
Discuss the period before a decision. Identify tasks that remain uncovered and which willing people or providers can actually assist within their scope. Do not ask an attendant to work an unapproved extension or assume the worker can absorb the change informally.
When the team responds, review the actual plan and first scheduled visits with the member. Keep any new concerns visible instead of treating a completed form as proof that daily help is now sufficient.
Discuss ordinary help at home
For separately arranged nonmedical assistance, our Fairmont care team can discuss the person's requested tasks and timing. Contact the local care team to ask about the actual scope, schedule and available staffing.
