A Fairmont PCS Member Wants to Work: Plan Personal Assistance

For families in Fairmont
For families in Fairmont, North Central West Virginia & Southwestern Pennsylvania: use the resources and practical steps in this guide to plan wanted nonmedical help. Confirm individual requirements and current availability with the responsible provider.
For an existing West Virginia Personal Care Services member who wants to work, assistance at an interview or workplace deserves a specific plan discussion. It should not be treated as an ordinary errand simply because the same worker might be involved.
Bring the chosen work goal to the PC nurse
Describe the person's intended job search or employment, the locations and hours involved, and the personal assistance needed there. Use the PC member resources and Chapter 517 to prepare questions for the existing Personal Care nurse.
Ask how the employment purpose fits the approved plan and what assessment or changes are needed. The member's goal should lead the conversation; the family should not decide that work is impossible or promise support before the responsible team has considered it.
Confirm agency and workplace arrangements
Clarify who supplies the personal assistance, what tasks are in scope and whether the agency can staff the actual place and time. Separately discuss any workplace access or coordination needs with the appropriate people and the member's permission.
An approved care task does not settle employer responsibilities, job qualifications, wages or workplace accommodations. Those questions belong with the responsible employer or qualified adviser. Likewise, a job offer does not establish that a care worker is scheduled.
Before changing the routine, put the actual work commitment and confirmed assistance alongside one another. Keep unresolved travel, interview or shift periods visible and return them to the team. The aim is support for the member's chosen employment, with practical responsibilities agreed rather than assumed.
Discuss ordinary help at home
For separately arranged nonmedical assistance, our Fairmont care team can discuss the person's requested tasks and timing. Contact the local care team to ask about the actual scope, schedule and available staffing.
